Martin Lockett has been writing, composing and recording his own music since his youth. His music has appeared in film, video games and multimedia. He prides himself in having introduced Immersion Composition to the UK (a method of speed-composing music which helps to overcome writers block). He has recorded albums and EPs for a range of acts, particularly around Matlock. He has played with a number of Matlock acts including The Serpent Motors, The Simple Tones, Mockabillies and, most recently, Get Knotted. He is also a member of the seminal collaboration "Buffalo Typewriter Sewing Machine"!
Martin also loves to write and took part in the famous creative writing course at the University of East Anglia as an addition to his Environmental Sciences degree.
Martin moved to Matlock with Alice in 2003 whilst still working for conservation charity, BTCV. They have two children who are also growing up to love music and the creative arts! Martin trained to be a primary school teacher in 2008 and has worked in a number of schools throughout Derbyshire teaching Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. He has had notable successes helping boys who have struggled in school as well as running successful school choirs.
In 2017, Martin left full time teaching to return to his first love of music tech. He has been studying to teach the Rock School Music Production syllabus. In addition to music and teaching, Martin has been helping his daughter develop a board game "Build" which we aim to launch in 2018. Find out more at Double L Games.
Martin Lockett can offer Music Production teaching for children and adults; Primary Tuition for children in reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. He can record your music, as well as taking commissions for writing and editing.
When not doing all of the above, Martin presides over Matlock Record Club or hosts the Smedley Street Socials: games and music nights at Designate @ The Gate.
Martin holds an enhanced DBS check.
